iaab program – residencies in Germany & France

Exchange Program
On one hand, iaab offers the opportunity to spend several months abroad in one of our partner cities (Bejing, Buenos Aires, Cape Town/Johannesburg, Fremantle, Helsinki, Montréal, New Delhi, New York, Rotterdam and Tokio). On the other hand, foreign artists, who are generally selected by our partner organisations abroad, are accommodated in one of the seven iaab studios in the region of Basel.

Studio Berlin (Germany)
Availability: January to June + July to December
Startig from 2005, the awarding of the scolarship for the studio of the Canton Basel City and the Kunstverein and of the Canton Basel Country is managed by iaab.

The living and working studio is situated in Berlin Wedding — for artists an emerging part of the city — in a studio complex with several guest studios of other Swiss cities.

Studio Leipzig (Germany)
Availability : January to June
Leipzig has a long tradition as one of the most important fair cities in Europe and one of the oldest fair in the world. Many traditional publishing houses are based in Leipzig.
Besides Frankfurt am Main, the city is historical center of letterpress and book trade. Also, there is one of the oldest universities and the oldest commercial college and music academy in Germany.

Studio Paris (France)

The political, economic and cultural heart of France is one of the most important international art centers. Startig from 2005, the awarding of the scolarship for the studio of the Canton Basel City and the Kunstverein and of the Canton Basel Country is managed by iaab. The artists studios are located in the Cité Internationale des Arts, sponsored by a French foundation. The Cité offers living and working spaces for artists from all over the world.

Exploring Scholarship

iaab funds a non stationary stay abroad or a journey. The goal of this free scholarship is to make possible and support a concrete artistic project abroad.

New: Since 2012 iaab offers a travel grant for curators/ art critics/ art education staff in collaboration with the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and the art space Klingental.
