“Build your Worlds” is an adventure in place-making, a collective journey of transformation and artistic discovery.
Hundreds of people will work together to create musical buildings, dancing paintings and moving sculptures, transforming an area of Dulwich Park into a colourful new landscape of imagination.
The final installation/performance will take place in May 2013, as part of the Dulwich Park Fair.
“Build your Worlds” will be open to both contemplation and active participation, offering people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to share the experience, be creative and have fun…Join the expedition!
“BUILD YOUR WORLDS” is part of London Life, a programme of events being funded and delivered by Southwark Council in south Southwark during 2013. This programme has been developed in partnership with Dulwich Society, Friends of Dulwich Park, Dulwich Festival, Artists’ Open House, local ward councillors and residents.
CREATIVE COSTUME MAKER: The commission is to create a large number of interactive “outfits”. In consultation with the artistic director, working to a very specific brief but also with plenty of creative freedom of interpretation. The costume maker will use cheap fabrics, charity shop founds, one pound shops etc…to make stuff that anyone can put on, assemble by themselves, decide how to use, and mix and match unsupervised.
The idea is that audience members can dress up (on top of what they are already wearing) and get transformed and ready to be an active part of a performance/installation experience, that deals with issues such as improvisation, rituals, costume as living sculpture, interaction and participation.. Due to the limited budget we see this opportunity as suitable for a recent graduate or ideally for an experienced designer interested in exploring similar ideas that are already part of their practice. The installation/performance will be a unique context to show your work and a great platform to potentially engage large audiences. The process may include a workshop(s) within community environments and the costume maker will need to be an active participant on the day of the final event.
“BUild your Worlds” will take place in South London and local artists will be in a better position to respond to the specific nature of this project.
